Mobility, resource and energy efficiency, safety as well as environment are just a few key words guiding the present and future economic developments. In this context materials are enhanced and newly developed. These new materials pose challenges for the production technology on a regular basis. Also the grinding technology which plays a major role in the context of manufacturing technologies due to the large application potential is confronted by these challenges.

After a succesful event in Bremen in 2013, at the European Conference On Grinding (ECG) in Aachen 2016 precisely this topic is addressed. We would like to discuss with you, how present challenges are overcome and how future challenges can be negotiated. For this purpose representatives from academic and industrial institutions convey

• Material trends in various sectors and the resulting challenges for the grinding technology
• Tool-, machine- and process-related solutions
• Research highlights in the field of grinding technology from industrial and scientific environment.
