Seismic Design of Industrial Facilities 2020
Industrial facilities typically exhibit an increased loss potential in case of an earthquake as damages may lead to wide-ranging ecological consequences. Repair and replacement of damaged process components, loss of processed and stored goods and production downtime are expensive.
State-of-the-art seismic design of industrial facilities, thus, requires a profound knowledge and understanding of the seismic behaviour of the structural and non-structural components, it should consider relevant interaction effects and take into account the individual hazard potential of the plant.
After the successful premiere in 2013, the 2nd International Conference on Seismic Design of Industrial Facilities (Aachen, Germany, March 4-5, 2020) again, served as a platform for fruitful dialogue between science and practice.
It brought together academics, researchers and professional engineers to discuss current developments in research and practical application on industrial facilities and their impact to the new code generation.
This volume contains more than 40 peer-reviewed contributions to the 2nd SeDIF-Conference covering the following topics:

  • Seismic Risk and Seismic Input to Plant Design
  • Seismic Design of Primary and Secondary Structures
  • Seismic Design of Liquid-filled Tanks
  • Seismic Design of Pipe Systems
  • Soil-Structure-Interaction Issues
  • Experimental Investigations
  • Seismic Safety Evaluation
  • Seismic Protection Systems and Retrofitting

The 2nd SeDIF-Conference was hosted by the Center for Wind and Earthquake Engineering (RWTH Aachen University), SDA engineering GmbH, the Chair of Structural Analysis and Dynamics (RWTH Aachen University), TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH, Fraunhofer EMI and TÜV SÜD Academy GmbH.
